29. Gisell, Catalina and our Spanish Story

Gisell Quihuis, the Director of Faculty Development and Diversity at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and I have created a Spanish Version of this podcast called: “La Biblia y La Homosexualidad.”

In this episode I also introduce my AI generated Spanish co-host, Catalina Maestra, who will be making appearances in some future English episodes.

[00:00:00] Toward the end of 2023, during the coffee hour it's a church that my wife and I attend, I met Gisell Kiwis. Gisell works at the Stanford University School of Medicine. She is the director of Faculty Development and Diversity.

[00:00:21] It's quite an amazing story of how the Holy Spirit brought us together, but I will save that for another day. Gisell asked me if creating a Spanish version of the podcast was possible. She grew up in a Spanish speaking family and has relatives.

[00:00:41] She wants to share the podcast with, but in Spanish. Converting a spoken podcast to Spanish is more challenging than simply translating a text file. However, I'm excited to announce we've done it.

[00:00:59] And in a moment we'll play the introduction to the Spanish version in this special bilingual English Spanish episode. The Spanish podcast has no English at all. However, in today's episode for our English audience we've done an English Spanish mashup, which I will play in a second.

[00:01:24] But first, since launching these podcasts, I've received messages from people who have said it saved them from suicide. I've also heard from Christian mothers of queer kids who found it brought them peace of mind.

[00:01:42] Would you help Gisell and me spread the word about this podcast? There are several ways that you can help. Firstly, even though Spanish speakers who might be interested, please email or text them a link to this episode or to the Spanish podcast itself.

[00:02:00] Title, la vibilia, i.e., la homosexualidad. Secondly, please leave us a comment or a review on the podcasting service you use.

[00:02:13] And thirdly, if you know any Spanish language social media influencers or have contacts in the Spanish press or media who might be interested in covering these podcasts or interviewing us, please let us know. You can contact us directly through the website, the Bible and homosexuality.

[00:02:37] Just click contact in the upper right-hand corner to send us a message in English or Spanish. Gisell and I have wrestled with our perfectionist tendency. The voices and the translations aren't flawless, but we believe they're good enough to potentially save some young people from suicidal thoughts.

[00:03:04] AI-generated voices sound more natural when there are multiple speakers. So, for this Spanish version, we've collaborated with an AI-generated colleague named Catalina Maestro. Personally, I find the Spanish version somewhat better because it feels like a dialogue.

[00:03:28] And I will use the same technique in some of the upcoming English episodes. You'll get a sense of this dialogue format in the bilingual introduction I'm about to play.

[00:03:41] Please let us know your thoughts. My voice in English is my real voice, but all the other voices that you will hear in both English and Spanish are AI-generated. Here is the bilingual introduction to la bibliotea y la homosexuality.

[00:04:10] Does the Bible condemn same-sex attraction? Does the Bible ban sexual minorities from marriage, ordination and teaching? ¿Qué dice realmente la bibliotea y qué dijo Jesús? What does the Bible actually say?

[00:04:31] And what did Jesus say? Prepare te para sorprenderte. Prepare to be surprised. Welcome to this podcast, where we celebrate the diversity of God's creation. Este podcast es positivo y afirmativo.

[00:04:53] This podcast is positive and affirming. I believe that God created all people, straight and gay in his image.

[00:05:30] Sexual minorities are some of God's greatest creations. And we know this because the Bible tells us, Saludos soy el tin xorwin. Greetings, I'm El tin xorwin. And I'm Catalina Maestra. And I'm Catalina Maestra.

Some years ago, I helped teach a large Bible study.

[00:06:09] And I heard some pastures and Bible teachers say some terrible things about homosexual men and other sexual minorities. Then I read the young Christian sexual minorities

[00:06:31] were committing suicide in alarmingly high numbers. Y usted as assumed that young Christian sexual minorities were committing suicide

[00:06:51] because they were hearing the same terrible things set about homosexual individuals. They sang their tendon Sunday school and they deeply loved Jesus. And then they were told terrible things about homosexual individuals

[00:07:34] and some of them committed suicide. Sí, creo que sí. Yes, I think so. But Jesus never said anything negative about any sexual minorities. Jesus was quite inclusive.

Yes, he was very much pro-diversity. He was very affirming. Inclusivity is what his ministry was all about. Luego, cuando que jubilaste,

[00:08:17] tú sigas tenimaron a desarrollar estos podcasts. Then, when you retired, your daughters encouraged you to develop these podcasts. Yes, to set the record straight about what Jesus actually said. And what the original authors of Scripture were actually saying that God created all human beings, both straight and get

[00:08:59] in God's own image and that God intentionally created you the way you are. Es es un mensachipo de loso. That's a powerful message. It's all in the Bible, and it scares many conservative Christians.

In this series, we will review the Bible verses used incorrectly to attack sexual minorities by conservative churches.

[00:09:45] And we will review what the intent of the original authors was. It was not to attack adult, consensual relationships or sexual minorities. We also review the many perspectives of the modern, the perspectives of the minorías sexual minorities that the majority of the iglesias ignore.

[00:10:15] We also review the many powerful affirming verses, the processual minority verses that must church as ignore. Then, in the posterior episodes, we diversify a little and talk about other important things for the young Christians. At the largo of the series, we dissectional the versículos of the Vibria

[00:10:41] and the religiously-concerbadoras. This fruit of this series, and if you know someone who is in Christiano and is fighting sexual orientation, please share this podcast with them. One young listener of the English version of this podcast, wrote me saying... Gracias.

[00:11:26] To support guests, me help me stop thinking about suicide. Mes alvastela rida. Muchas gracias. You saved my life. Thank you so much. Increasely. Extraordinary. And a mother shared with me.

I wonder how many gaze will not seek suicide, because they feel loved and accepted. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I am sorry for your heart. God is exactly like you. Remember this, hold it close to your heart.

[00:12:46] God loves you exactly as you are. And mine. Our computer generated.
